My Identity

Three things that have specifically affected my life are the passing of both my grandparents, a trip to Pittsburgh, and traveling to baseball games with my family across the country.

Initially, thinking of an experience that has changed my life is the experience of losing both my grandparents. My grandmother succumbed to Stage IV Ovarian Cancer on 7/7/07. My grandfather succumbed to Lung Cancer on 2/27/12. Although clearly heartbroken by the experience, I have learned from it. I have learned the necessity of taking care of myself. This is in physical, mental, and emotional aspects. My grandparents put everyone before themselves, leaving themselves as last. This experience of losing them has taught me to put myself first.

Just recently, I traveled to Pittsburgh for a weekend trip with my best friend and my dad. I spent the weekend exploring the University of Pittsburgh, which is where I plan to enroll in the fall. This experience has taught me that am growing up- affecting my identity in that I am ready to be on my own for the first time in my life.

Lastly, traveling across the country with my family for various baseball games has taught me the importance of being together as a family. It has helped me to retain my identity and realize what I want in the future- a tight knight family.
